REEForest goes to school in Sardinia!

On Saturday December 14th, the team of the Area Marina Protetta Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre met a hundred students from the Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore Mariano IV d’Arborea in Oristano. Four classes from the first and second year of liceo scientifico had the chance to learn more about the Marine Protected Area under the guidance of the director, Massimo Marras.

The director talked about MPAs and their role to protect endangered ecosystems. He also gave a presentation about Cystoseira and marine restoration.

For the occasion, we set up a photo exhibition illustrating the various stages of the restoration carried out by REEForest. Students could see how the project develops, from the initial monitoring to the reef transplantation. We showed the various professional roles involved in ecosystem restoration and what we can do for the sake of marine forests.

The photo exhibition will remain at the school for about a month. The photographs will be located in a common area for all classes to see. By word of mouth, we hope that more and more students stop to watch our exhibition and learn about our project!
