This month, our activities have been featured on television programmes in the two European countries involved in the project, Italy and Greece. Our partners had the opportunity to explain to television audiences how marine restoration works and why it is so important to protect habitats at risk.
In Italy: Linea Verde Italia
During the episode of Linea Verde Italia dedicated to the province of Savona, our Ligurian partners spoke about the vital role played by macroalgae forests in the marine ecosystem and the work we do to protect them.
Against the backdrop of the Isola di Bergeggi Marine Protected Area, Monica Caradonna interviewed the director of the MPA, Davide Virzi, and Valentina Asnaghi, one of the professors at the University of Genoa involved in REEForest.
Here is the link to watch the episode; you will find the segment dedicated to the Isola di Bergeggi MPA and reforestation starting at the 4-minute mark.
In Greece: Blue Forests
The forests of Cystoseira sensu lato and the grasslands of marine phanerogams take centre stage in «Blue Forests», a new documentary mini-series on Cosmote TV for Greek audiences.
Over four episodes, the series follows the scientific teams working on the conservation and restoration of these habitats of vital ecological importance.
The phytobenthos team at the HCMR is proud to feature in one of the episodes thanks to our restoration work, showcasing the activities required for the REEForestation of degraded reefs in the Marine Protected Area of Gyaros Island.
The first episode aired on 1 March. The Greek public can find the episode on the Cosmote TV YouTube channel. Unfortunately, the documentary is not available outside Greece.
