In early May, our 9 project partners gathered for a monitoring visit.
The meeting was organised in Sardinia, at the Area Marina Protetta, “Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre“, a partner institution of the project and one of the target sites of our restoration.
To evaluate the successes and find solutions to the difficulties encountered so far, we met with the monitor and the presence of the project advisor from the European Commission was also very welcome!
Three intense days, full of technical exchanges, progress and good news. The key points of the meeting were:
✔️ the sharing of developments in each partner’s activities;
✔️ the evaluation of successes and solutions to the challenges that emerged;
✔️ the analysis of solutions developed in the laboratory and on the field.
We discussed with satisfaction the progress of cultures under controlled conditions and the growth of algae transplanted in Liguria, Cilento and Greece. More than that, we discussed new technologies and monitoring methodologies to better achieve our goals.
Despite the adverse weather conditions of recent months, the results obtained in the various working packages are more than promising!
Delegates from the different partners explored a new restoration site within the Marine Protected Area, where Cystoseira monitoring and collection activities will start this summer.
The archaeological site of Tharros provided the background for the exploration of the designated areas, led by an expert delegation from the local CNR, which is assisting the project activities in Sardinia.
The various species of Cystoseira s.l. present along the coast of the Marine Protected Area were identified. Our researchers are ready to begin restoration work shortly!
